Free kitchen remodel estimate template
A kitchen remodel estimate is the price for rebuilding a kitchen, written before the work starts: the demolition, cabinets and counters, the trades, allowances for what's still to be chosen, and the payment schedule. Kitchen remodels have long lead times and several trades in a row, so the estimate is as much a plan as a price. The countertops can't be templated until the cabinets are set, and the client should see that order on paper.

- Cabinets in detail
- Brand, line, finish and the number of boxes, or an allowance until they're chosen. Cabinets often set the schedule, so note the lead time too.
- The countertop sequence
- Countertops are templated after the cabinets are set, and fabrication takes time after that. Show it, so the gap isn't a surprise.
- Allowances
- Set amounts for the counters, tile, fixtures or hardware until the client picks them. The estimate stays firm, and upgrades become change orders.
- Appliances
- Who supplies them, and whether you install, connect or just set them in place. A gas line or a dedicated circuit is its own line.
- A payment schedule
- Payments tied to milestones the client can see, like cabinets set or counters in. Some states limit the deposit and how progress payments work on home improvement contracts.
Writing a kitchen remodel estimate that gets approved
- Measure the kitchen and photograph every wall before you price. Window and door positions, outlets and the existing plumbing all shape the layout.
- Ask what the client has already bought. Appliances bought before the cabinets are ordered have to fit the plan, so get the model numbers.
- Note how the client will manage without a kitchen: a temporary sink, the fridge moved to another room, how many weeks it lasts.
- Write down what you're not touching, like the soffits or the window, so the estimate's edges are clear.
Questions
- What should a kitchen remodel estimate include?
- A kitchen remodel estimate should include demolition, cabinets, countertops, backsplash, plumbing, electrical, appliance installation, drywall and paint, flooring if it's changing, the permit, allowances for anything not yet chosen, and the payment schedule.
- How do you put countertops on a kitchen estimate?
- Give countertops their own line, or an allowance by material, and say the fabricator templates them after the cabinets are installed. The client then knows the counters come later in the job, not on day one.
- Should a kitchen estimate have a payment schedule?
- A kitchen estimate should have a payment schedule: a deposit to start, payments tied to milestones like cabinets set or counters installed, and the balance at completion. Some states limit the deposit and how progress payments work on home improvement contracts, so check yours.
